Digital screens display designs in RGB color mode, where emitted light produces luminous and bright tones. Commercial printing converts graphics into CMYK ink formulations, which absorb ambient light rather than emitting it. Because adding color in CMYK creates deeper tones while adding light in RGB creates brighter tones, vivid digital colors naturally experience a gamut shift and can appear deeper or less luminous when printed. Additionally, the VistaPrint® Printed Baseball Cap features a structured 5-panel profile decorated using heat transfer technology. The woven fabric surface absorbs light and produces a smooth matte finish, reflecting ambient room lighting differently than a backlit computer preview. For future apparel orders, designing directly in CMYK color mode and adjusting the color mix, such as reducing the percentage of Black (K) in saturated shades, helps achieve brighter, more accurate tones.
