Too much “play” in print area

These plates are thick & sturdy and have both white enameled sides protected before printing, which is awesome. The challenge I had was 11 of the 12 I ordered printed off centre. Unfortunately, the design my customer needed had a 0. 5” black outside frame and when printed everything shifted by . 25”. It was exceptionally noticeable on two of the sides (ie whole image shifted down and to left). Next time, I will have the internal portion printed only & then apply the outside frame myself. To fix, I ended up trimming the 11 on the right edge by 0. 25”. Not the best but made it work.

When printing designs with tight borders, slight shifting can occasionally happen. Printed products are made on large sheets and then cut to their final size. Because this process happens quickly and in large batches, small variations can occur. The trim area exists to allow for these variations and marks where the final cut is made. In the printing industry, machines have a tiny amount of natural movement, which is why we always recommend keeping critical design elements, like a frame, well within the designated safety area and away from the edges. We think your idea to print the internal portion only and apply the outside frame yourself next time is a brilliant workaround for this specific design. For future orders, you can also utilize our online design preview tool to ensure your text and borders sit safely inside the recommended margins.
